Clever Brand Product Placements in Movies you didn’t notice

But brands can be very clever in placing their products carefully in movies and TV shows you may have seen but never noticed. That is, until TODAY. Let’s have a good look at how some brands sneakily (or not so sneakily) have placed their products within Indian movies you may have seen. Without further ado, let’s take a quick look at the brands we’ve noticed—and missed—in movies. 

1. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag – Royal Enfield

Several brands lined up with the movie made on the Flying Sikh that India adores and loves for his achievements. But Royal Enfield went front and center for this one to ensure it got as much attention as Farhan Akhtar did in the movie by putting an eye-catching promotional poster that had him sitting on the Desert Storm version of the Royal Enfield Bullet. Royal Enfield even held a giveaway as part of their promotional campaign where the winner received (you guessed it!) the actual bike that Farhan Akhtar rode in the movie. 

However, this product placement only made total sense as Milkha Singh actually did have a Royal Enfield bike during his army days. Well done on the synergy, Royal Enfield! 

2. Phir Hera Pheri – Domino’s Pizza

How can we forget this one? In this comedic movie, Baburao Apte can be clearly seen holding onto a Domino’s Pizza box, stating that he kept getting away for half an hour since he ordered the pizza, making fun of the poor delivery boy. This was very evident for us viewers, though. I mean, they even have their “30 minutes or free” tagline embedded into the dialogue. To be fair, we have to say that Baburao makes it pretty funny to watch. Kudos to Paresh Rawal for his hilarious acting skills! 

3. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara – Mountain Dew

Subtlety is key when it comes to product placement. However, this was kind of short-sighted for us as brand consumers. If you were on a road trip in Spain as three guys, would you want to have the local ale, some sangria, or Mountain Dew? Yep! Now you see why it’s weird to watch three grown men drinking liters and liters of Mountain Dew while on their massive road trip. You can do better as a brand, Mountain Dew! But hey—money talks, right?

4. Chak De! India – McDonald’s

This was one of the most epic movies that graced the silver screen. SRK played an iconic role in the movie along with the rest of the team in making this an amazing movie experience to watch. We as viewers were left with sheer happiness leaving the theatre at the time. However, even such an amazing movie isn’t without a brand placing its product in the movie. Do you remember the scene where the girls fight the perverted boys who are eve-teasing them, and the girls join forces and beat them up? Yep. This entire scene was shot at a McDonald’s outlet. Very subtle product placement and we love it! 

5. Golmaal – Castrol GTX

This one was obvious! And waaaay too obvious! But we’ll give props to Castrol for its apt product placement since they do sponsor car-based and racing-based events in the real world. This fits well with what they’re trying to market as a brand. And being part of Golmaal: Fun Unlimited must’ve also portrayed them as a fun-loving brand that also focuses on efficiency and quality. So great job on the product placement for this one as a brand, Castrol! Motor-heads and car owners watching the movie everywhere definitely took notice, we’re sure of that! 

Product Placements Aren’t ‘Brand’ New but They Work

Sometimes product placements can be subtle and innovative; other times they can be blatantly obvious and fit in sync with the movie. However, there are still more that are just plain terrible in placement. One such example is Anil Kapoor showing off his Nike socks in a plethora of scenes in Yuvvraaj, where it simply looks unnatural. Besides, Nike is traditionally known for being a sports brand. How do those sports socks even fit in with a suit? We’re puzzled, just the same.
